a natural choice
Wood is a surface ideal for interior design, as it meets some of the most important psychological and physiological needs of man. Its tone, softening gently, naturally, is pleasing to the eye, while its warmth is inviting to the touch, and its unmistakable aroma is always pleasant to the sense of smell. It is a material that combines these properties with excellent technical performance. Its organic characteristics make it the suitable choice for all air conditioned locations, while a high level of acoustic insulation helps to create an intimate and soft ambience. A living and breathable material, wood absorbs excess moisture, releasing it only when the environment requires. But only a scrupulous process preserves and enhances all these characteristics. Throughout the process of transforming wood, Oldfloor takes care of the smallest detail, combining ancient manual techniques with the latest technology. From the careful selection of the oak logs, cut only during the most appropriate season, to the planks and then the drying, to achieving the handmade finish by skilled craftsmen, everything is checked to ensure the customer a product of high technical performance and sophisticated aesthetic effects.
Each wooden floor branded Oldfloor preserves and recounts many stories. The history of towering oaks, carefully selected in the lush forests of Slavonia, and the history of expert hands that cut, plane, and finish each piece of flooring. The story of the skilled artisans who oil, wax, and varnish manually, thus enhancing the natural look of wood and greatly increase its durability, but also the history of master craftsmen who fashion elegant ornaments: true masterpieces of applied art.
Every vein, every flame, every shade is the result, unique and inimitable, of the layering and interweaving of these stories, a long process of transformation that combines craftsmanship and technology. This includes allowing room for irregularities and imperfections which, expertly controlled, become valued and distinctive elements within the anonymity of two dimensional industrial standardization.
Oldfloor offers six types of crafting: Pre sanded, Brushed, Borgogna smoothed, Worn effect planing, Hewed planing and Sawn.
Smoothing the surface obtained by means of special machines, making it soft to the touch.
Special brushes wear away soft parts from the surface of the wood bringing out the grain.
On brushed or presanded surfaces, small portions of the wood are hollowed out manually.
With a traditional hand plane, the depressions are made along the entire length of the surface of the parquet.
The plank shows all the characteristics of the worn planed effect but with the addition of planing that gives the boards a camber.
The surface is engraved manually with a bandsaw leaving furrows perpendicular to the grain.
All Oldfloor finishes, whether oiled or varnished, are designed to bring out the best characteristics of wood and are obtained through multiple processes.
